It's a pretty simple story actually.

Like many of you, we got tired of watching cars drive up and down our neighborhood streets as if they were on the Texas Motor Speedway. Each of us has young children and don't like feeling uneasy when they are playing in front of our homes because of speeding drivers. You can only yell and motion to drivers to slow down so many times. We all see these people every day in our neighborhoods...they're driving 10-20 mph faster than they should be, often chatting away on their cell phones, completely oblivious to their speed and to the fact that there are children playing all around them. Not malicious...just clueless!

One day in July 2008, Cris (tired of these speeding cars) called David (the HOA President of the neighborhood) and asked what could be done to get these cars to SLOW DOWN? David shared Cris' frustration and said he wanted to help, but would need Cris' help to engineer a campaign to raise local awareness. No problem! Shortly thereafter, we discovered that another Frisco dad, Chuck Altman, had already been actively working on the same campaign. The three of us agreed on the urgency to raise awareness and help spread the SLOW DOWN message. We shared a vision and now it was about setting up the plan.

We met with Frisco city officials and soon realized that, if we were going to lead a city-wide campaign to raise awareness throughout our great city, we would need to be the ones to lead the effort. At the same time, we received support by some city council members with whom we met. We have since held meetings and built a strong database of local residents wanting to help with this campaign. We have discovered that when you are heading up a volunteer-based, not-for-profit campaign whose theme is essentially "help us get drivers to slow down to protect our children," drumming up support is not a challenge!

What's next?

With the exciting launch of www.slowdownfrisco.org, we are now one step closer to building the city-wide awareness program we have envisioned from the get-go. Our next step is to secure local sponsorships in order to raise funds for things like plan literature, signs, trinkets, hats/shirts, ads in newspapers/magazines, etc. We envision "SLOW DOWN FRISCO" signs/stickers affixed to store fronts, on backs of cars, in our schools, on t-shirts, and on your trash/recycling bins within the next year as we continue to grow. We hope you have visited our home page and have made the "20 is Plenty!" commitment, agreeing to not drive more than 20mph in our residential neighborhoods. It may take a little getting used to, but we know you understand that slower speeds significantly increase the odds of preventing injury or death to our great children of Frisco.

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to visit our site.
Thank you for making the "20 is Plenty!" commitment.
Thank you for SLOWING DOWN.

Sincerely,
Chuck, Cris, and David
